Kaya FC pulled off a 3-1 victory over the Loyola Meralco Sparks to continue its climb in the standings of the United Football League Tuesday at the Emperador Stadium.
Pablo Rodriguez Aracil scored two goals, while OJ Porteria chipped in one to help Kaya force a tie with Loyola for second place in the table.
Rodriguez Aracil started things off for Kaya, converting off a free kick dish from Richard Greer at the 28th minute for his team’s 1-nil lead.
Kaya padded its lead quickly after being awarded a penalty due to a handball violation by Loyola defender Sammuel Bonney at the 35th minute. OJ Porteria made the free shot which gave Kaya a 2-nil halftime lead.
Rodriguez Aracil then found the back of the net at the 47th minute to lift Kaya to a comfortable 3-nil advantage.
Loyola tried to mount a comeback, but a Lee Joo Young goal at the 88th minute wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.
The result moved Kaya in a tie for second place with Loyola after an identical 10-3-3 win-draw-loss records for 33 points, a few points behind league-leading Global FC which has 37 points.
The loss also extended the Sparks’ winless slump to three matches which led to Loyola’s slide in the table after being at the helm for the early part of the season.
In the first match, Green Archers United Globe and Pachanga PLDT Home Fibr battled to a scoreless draw.
Green Archers saw the end of its four-game winning streak and settled for a 5-5-5 card for fifth place with 20 points.
Pachanga extended its winless slide to seven matches, but climbed to a share of sixth place after a 3-5-7 slate for 14 points.
